Go for the idea of a free holiday, a bunch of instant new mates, a string of spectacular sights and doing something good for the world?
The 2005 Kidney Kar Rally could be up your alley, says local organiser Andrew Gay.
Mr Gay held an information night and charity auction at the Macquarie Inn on Saturday and although the night was chock-full of fun, he said the room was not as chock-full of people as he’d hoped.
“There are a lot of people out there with kidney disease that need help,” he said.
“Kidney Health Australia, which runs the rally, isn’t government-funded at all so it’s up to us to raise the money.
“I have to say I hoped a few more would turn out.”
Mr Gay has participated in the rally for the past four years and says it comes with his highest recommendation.
“It’s eight days of a lot of fun and adventures and a pretty good holiday,” he said.
“The money doesn’t have to come out of your pocket – you fundraise it all – and there are heaps of social events along the way.
“You meet a lot of new people and it’s a great way to see Australia.”
This year’s rally starts at Eden, on the south coast and ends up in Lithgow, via Mount Gambier.
A bonus of travelling in a group is not only the camaraderie and companionship but also the mechanical assistance, Mr Gay said.
The rally runs from August 12 to 20. Anyone interested in entering, wanting to help fundraise or make a donation should call 0412 494 058.
